The word Lent comes from the root word “lengthen”, reflecting the belief that as the days are getting longer with the arrival of Spring, we are witness to so much new life, and growth, all around us. As Christians, we too are called to experience a spiritual rebirth and renew our faith during Lent. We practice prayer and acts of charity with our students. We reconcile with the Lord, and one another, through the sacrament of Reconciliation. We may also honour the season by giving something up and/or making a special effort to do good works. A Lenten journey is best marked by a commitment to give and help others in a way that displays mercy and compassion towards our fellow humankind. Our Lenten promises allow for the heightening of our spiritual awareness, which leads directly to a stronger connection with God.
